An updated generic classification of Cleomaceae.

Accurate classification of biological diversity is a critical and foundational component to all biological research endeavors. Notably, it is essential for (1) understanding biodiversity and assessing threats to that diversity, (2) determining patterns of diversification across spatial scales, and (3) investigating the adaptive evolutionary process. We here present updates to the Cleomaceae generic classification where we integrate morphological, micromorphological, and DNA data to create a phylogenetic-based classification of Cleomaceae that is predictive, practical, and robust. Updates include the recognition of a few new genera to address distinct lineages not previously recognized at the generic level and an update on the status of revision of the family.
