Abstract Detail

Insights into the diversity of plant sex chromosomes

Charlesworth, Deborah [1].

Studying the evolution of sex chromosomes: some ways in which plants are better than animals .

I will describe some differences between sex chromosomes in animals and plants, and suggest that some interesting questions about sex chromosome evolution are best studied in young systems, and that plants include systems that are excellent for such studies. I will define young systems and outline current progress in genetic and population genomic analyses of the evolution of sex-linked regions in some of these systems, as well as some of the difficulties, and ideas for future work.
